The Milk of Sorrow

The Milk of Sorrow is a 2009 Peruvian Spanish drama film directed, written and co-produced by Claudia Llosa. The film follows Fausta, a young woman living with fears she believes she inherited from her mother, who survived sexual violence during the internal conflict between Sendero Luminoso and Peruvian government forces from 1980 to 1992. It won the Golden Bear and the FIPRESCI prize at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the first Peruvian film to receive that nomination.
