Infernal Affairs is a 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, following an undercover police officer embedded inside a triad organization and a triad mole who has simultaneously infiltrated the police force, each racing to expose the other before his own double life is discovered. The film is widely regarded as one of the defining works of Hong Kong cinema and was the basis for Martin Scorsese's 2006 American remake The Departed, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
