Kagemusha

Kagemusha is a 1980 Japanese film directed by Akira Kurosawa, set during the Sengoku period. It follows a petty thief who closely resembles the dying warlord Takeda Shingen and is trained to impersonate him as a decoy to protect the clan from rival lords, a deception that ends at the 1575 Battle of Nagashino. The film shared the Palme d'Or at the 1980 Cannes Film Festival and received two Academy Award nominations, marking a return by Kurosawa to the samurai epic after a decade without a Japanese production.
