Faust

Faust is a 2011 Russian film directed by Alexander Sokurov, performed in German and starring Johannes Zeiler as Heinrich Faust, with Anton Adasinsky as the moneylender Mauricius, a Mephistopheles figure. Drawing on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Thomas Mann, the film follows Faust, a scholar consumed by the search for the hidden workings of existence, as Mauricius leads him toward a blood contract trading his soul for one night with a young woman named Margarete. The film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and several prizes from the Russian Guild of Film Critics, including Best Film and Best Director.
