The Class (2008 film)

The Class is a 2008 French film directed by Laurent Cantet. Set in a Parisian middle school in a working class, largely immigrant district, it follows French teacher Francois Marin through a school year with a class of fourteen and fifteen year olds, exploring the tension between maintaining discipline and building genuine cooperation in a diverse classroom. The film won the Palme d'Or unanimously at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, the first French film to do so since 1987.
