Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles is a 1975 Belgian and French art film directed by Chantal Akerman, following three days in the life of a widowed mother through extended static takes centered on her domestic routine of cooking, cleaning and childcare. Small disruptions to her rigid schedule build toward an act of violence that closes the film. Akerman said she made the film to challenge cinema's own hierarchy of images, which she felt undervalued domestic labor traditionally performed by women. In the 2022 Sight and Sound critics poll it was voted the greatest film of all time, the first film directed by a woman to top that ranking.
