Distant Thunder

Distant Thunder is a 1973 Bengali-language film directed by Satyajit Ray, adapting a novel by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay and marking one of Ray's first works filmed in colour. Set in a Bengali village during the Second World War, it follows a young Brahmin educator and his wife as the Bengal famine of 1943 gradually breaks down the village's traditional social norms under the pressure of hunger and starvation. Starring Soumitra Chatterjee and Bobita, it won the Golden Bear at the 1973 Berlin International Film Festival.
