Yol is a 1982 Turkish drama credited to director Yilmaz Guney, who wrote the screenplay and detailed directing instructions while imprisoned and had fellow director Serif Goren carry them out on set before Guney escaped from prison and completed the editing in Paris and Switzerland. Set after Turkey's 1980 military coup, the film follows five prisoners granted brief home leave, using their separate journeys to portray the country and its people under the pressures of that period. It shared the Palme d'Or at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival with Missing and won the FIPRESCI Prize, but remained banned in Turkey itself, in part over its treatment of Kurdish culture and language, until 1999.
