The Salesman (2016 film)

The Salesman is a 2016 Iranian drama written and directed by Asghar Farhadi, produced as an Iranian-French co-production and filmed in Tehran, starring Shahab Hosseini and Taraneh Alidoosti as a married couple performing Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman on stage. After the wife is assaulted in their new apartment, the film follows her husband's search for the attacker and her own struggle with the trauma of the assault. It premiered in competition at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where Farhadi won Best Screenplay and Hosseini won Best Actor, and it went on to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Farhadi's second Oscar after A Separation; he declined to attend the ceremony in protest of United States travel restrictions on Muslim-majority countries.
