Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is a 2011 Turkish-Bosnian drama directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ercan Kesal and Ebru Ceylan, drawing on an experience one of the writers had during compulsory service in the region. The film follows a group of officials, including a doctor, a prosecutor and a police commissioner, as they search through the night across the repetitive landscape of the Anatolian steppe for a murder victim's buried body. It premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where it shared the Grand Prix with The Kid with a Bike, and it was later named the 54th best film of the twenty-first century in a 2016 poll of international critics.
