Miss Julie (1951 film)

Miss Julie is a 1951 Swedish film directed by Alf Sjoberg, adapted from August Strindberg's 1888 play. Set in nineteenth century Sweden, it follows a count's daughter who begins a liaison with Jean, her father's servant, during a Midsummer's Eve celebration, a transgression of class boundaries that leads to scandal and tragedy. The film won the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film, the predecessor of the Palme d'Or, at the 1951 Cannes Film Festival, making Sjoberg the first Swedish director to win the prize.
