Padre Padrone

Padre Padrone is a 1977 Italian film directed by brothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, based on an autobiographical book by Gavino Ledda, using both professional and non-professional actors drawn from the Sardinian countryside. It follows a Sardinian shepherd who breaks away from his domineering father through education and eventually becomes a celebrated linguist. Made originally for Italian television, it won the Palme dOr at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival, a success that carried it into theatrical release, and it was later placed on Italys list of films considered worth preserving for their cultural significance.
