Ida is a 2013 Polish drama directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, a co-production with Denmark, France and the United Kingdom, following a young novice nun in 1960s Poland who learns before taking her vows that she was born Jewish and travels with her aunt to uncover what happened to her family during the Second World War. Shot in black and white with a deliberately restrained visual style, it won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2015, the first Polish film to do so.
