Three Colours: Blue is a 1993 film directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski, a French, Polish and Swiss co-production made in French. It follows Julie, a woman who survives a car accident that kills her husband and daughter, and who tries to isolate herself from her former life after finding herself suddenly free of her family ties, only to discover she cannot escape human connection. Kieślowski described the subject as emotional liberty rather than its social or political meaning. The film is the first installment in the Three Colours trilogy, themed on the French revolutionary ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity.
