Jules and Jim is a 1962 French film directed by Francois Truffaut, adapted from Henri-Pierre Roche's semi-autobiographical 1953 novel of the same name, starring Jeanne Moreau, Oskar Werner and Henri Serre. It follows a decades long friendship between an Austrian, Jules, and a Frenchman, Jim, and their shared and shifting love for the free spirited Catherine, spanning the years before and after the First World War. Celebrated for Truffaut's restless, innovative camera work and editing, it is considered one of the defining films of the French New Wave.
