Larks on a String is a 1969 Czech film directed by Jiri Menzel, adapted from a novel by Bohumil Hrabal, following people deemed bourgeois by Czechoslovakia's communist government in the 1950s who are sent to work in a junkyard for political re-education. Banned by the authorities on completion, it was not released until 1990, after the fall of communism, when it won the Golden Bear at the 40th Berlin International Film Festival.
