Adoption

Adoption is a 1975 Hungarian drama directed by Marta Meszaros. It follows Kata, a 42-year-old factory worker who lives alone near a residential care facility for abandoned children and seeks to adopt a child after her married lover refuses to have one with her. The film won the Golden Bear at the 25th Berlin International Film Festival, becoming the first female-directed film to take the award, and was submitted by Hungary for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 48th Academy Awards.
