Happening is a 2021 French drama directed by Audrey Diwan, adapted from Annie Ernaux's 2000 memoir of the same name and starring Anamaria Vartolomei as Anne, a university student in Angouleme in 1963. When Anne becomes pregnant and cannot find a doctor willing to help her end the pregnancy, then illegal in France, she undertakes a dangerous search for an illegal abortion. The film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and the Lumiere Award for Best Film.
