Ugetsu

Ugetsu is a 1953 Japanese film directed by Kenji Mizoguchi, based on stories from Ueda Akinari's eighteenth century collection Ugetsu Monogatari, set amid the civil warfare of Japan's Sengoku period. It follows two peasant men, a potter and a would be samurai, whose ambitions for wealth and glory lead them away from their families and into supernatural encounters that expose the costs of their pursuits. The film won the Silver Lion at the 1953 Venice Film Festival and is widely regarded by critics and filmmakers as one of the greatest films ever made, admired for its fluid camera work and ghostly visual atmosphere.
