Shoplifters is a 2018 Japanese drama directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, following a poor Tokyo family that supplements its income through petty theft and that takes in an abused young girl found outside in the cold, gradually revealing that the family's own bonds are not the biological ones they appear to be. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, the first Japanese winner since The Eel in 1997, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
