Animated Feature Films

Up is a 2009 American computer-animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and directed by Pete Docter, following elderly widower Carl Fredricksen, who ties thousands of balloons to his house to fly it to South America in fulfillment of a promise made to his late wife, accompanied by an eager young stowaway scout named Russell. The film opens with a largely wordless sequence tracing Carl's entire marriage to his wife Ellie from childhood through her death, a sequence widely singled out by critics as one of the most emotionally effective passages in animated film. Up won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was the first animated film selected to open the Cannes Film Festival.
