Restrepo

Documentary and Nonfiction Film

Restrepo is a 2010 American war documentary directed by Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger, filmed over more than a year embedded with a platoon of United States Army soldiers stationed at a remote outpost in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. The outpost, and the film, are named for a platoon medic, Private First Class Juan Restrepo, killed early in the deployment the film covers. Built entirely from combat footage and interviews with the soldiers themselves rather than outside commentary, it won the Grand Jury Prize for documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival; Hetherington was killed covering the Libyan civil war the following year.
