Los Olvidados is a 1950 Mexican film directed by Luis Bunuel, following a group of impoverished, often violent street children in the slums of Mexico City, centered on a boy who falls in with an older delinquent. Bunuel filmed it with unusual bluntness for its era, including a startling dream sequence, refusing both sentimental uplift and simple moralizing about poverty and juvenile crime. The film won Bunuel the Best Director award at the 1951 Cannes Film Festival and is widely regarded as one of the founding works of social realist cinema in Latin America.
