The Tree of Wooden Clogs is a 1978 Italian film directed by Ermanno Olmi, shot in the Bergamasque dialect of Lombard. It chronicles a year in the lives of four peasant families sharing a farm in the Bergamo countryside in 1898, built around the crisis that follows when a father carves wooden clogs from a landlord's tree so his son can attend school. Made largely with nonprofessional actors in a neorealist style focused on the daily rhythms of poverty, the film won the Palme d'Or at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival and the César Award for best foreign film.
