The Green Hornet is an American radio drama created by George W. Trendle and writer Fran Striker, premiering on Detroit station WXYZ in 1936, following a masked newspaper publisher who poses as a criminal and, with his valet and partner Kato, fights organized crime while himself remaining a wanted man in the eyes of the police. The series was presented as taking place in the same fictional world as Trendle and Striker's earlier hit The Lone Ranger, with the Green Hornet identified within the show's continuity as the Ranger's grand-nephew. The Green Hornet ran on American radio for over a decade and later expanded into film serials, comic books and television, remaining one of the more enduring masked-hero properties to originate in the medium of radio.
