Rupert Raleigh Hughes was an American novelist, film director, Oscar-nominated screenwriter, military officer and music composer who lived from 31 January 1872 to 9 September 1956. He was the brother of Howard R. Hughes Sr. and uncle of the billionaire Howard R. Hughes Jr. His three-volume scholarly biography of George Washington broke new ground in demythologizing Washington, and he directed the film Souls for Sale, which is listed here as a work.
