Claude Henri Jean Chabrol (24 June 1930 to 12 September 2010) was a French film director and a member of the French New Wave, the group of filmmakers that came to prominence at the end of the 1950s. Like his contemporaries Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Eric Rohmer and Jacques Rivette, he was a critic for the magazine Cahiers du Cinéma before beginning his career as a filmmaker. His feature debut, Le Beau Serge (1958), was inspired by Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt, and thrillers became his trademark. The atlas records him as the director of Les Cousins.
