The Burns and Allen Show is an American radio comedy series starring the husband-and-wife team of George Burns and Gracie Allen, broadcast on American radio networks from the early 1930s until the pair moved the format to television in 1950. Built around Gracie Allen's scatterbrained, illogical-but-somehow-consistent comic persona playing off George Burns's straight-man delivery, the show was one of the most popular husband-and-wife comedy acts in the history of American broadcasting. Its long run and successful transition from vaudeville to radio to television made it one of the more influential domestic comedy formats of American broadcasting's first decades.
