The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is a 2008 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan, based on the Batman characters created for DC Comics. It is the second installment in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, following Batman Begins, and follows Batman, police lieutenant James Gordon and district attorney Harvey Dent as they attempt to dismantle organized crime in Gotham City, a campaign disrupted by the anarchic criminal mastermind the Joker. The film starred Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Morgan Freeman, was shot in part with IMAX cameras, and was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures and Syncopy. It earned widespread critical acclaim and became the highest-grossing release of 2008, and Heath Ledger's posthumous performance as the Joker won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, the first such win for a comic book film.
