Glory

Glory is a 1989 American historical war drama directed by Edward Zwick that chronicles the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of the Union Army's first African American regiments in the Civil War, from its formation to its assault on Fort Wagner. Matthew Broderick stars as the regiment's commanding officer, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, alongside Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes and Morgan Freeman as fictional soldiers in the ranks, in a screenplay by Kevin Jarre drawn from Lincoln Kirstein's Lay This Laurel, Peter Burchard's One Gallant Rush and Shaw's own letters. Produced by Freddie Fields Productions and distributed by Tri-Star Pictures on a budget of 18 million dollars, the film grossed 27 million dollars worldwide.
