Gentleman's Agreement is a 1947 American drama directed by Elia Kazan for 20th Century-Fox, in which a journalist poses as Jewish to investigate antisemitism in New York City and affluent Connecticut communities. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won three, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress for Celeste Holm, and it became one of Fox's highest-grossing films of the year despite its then-controversial subject. It was added to the National Film Registry in 2017 as culturally significant.
