Faraway Downs is a 2023 six episode television series directed by Baz Luhrmann, an expanded serialized adaptation of his own 2008 film Australia that incorporates unused footage from the original production. Set between 1939 and 1942 in northern Australia, it follows the same story as the film, an English noblewoman and a cattle drover navigating romance and the management of a cattle station against the backdrop of historical events including the bombing of Darwin during the Second World War and policies affecting Aboriginal children. It premiered at the SXSW Sydney Festival on October 21, 2023, launched on Disney+, Disney+ Hotstar, and Hulu on November 26, 2023, received mixed reviews with critics saying the reassessment did not fix the deficiencies of the original film while adding to its length, and its soundtrack won the 2024 ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack, Cast or Show Album.
