This page indexes the reference sources this atlas cites: encyclopedias, official institutional sites, scholarly histories and museum collections such as the British Film Institute, the Library of Congress and Cook's history of narrative film. Each source entry names the kind of source it is and the facts it is trusted to support, so a citation can be checked against the source's own authority rather than taken on faith.
