Ernst Laemmle was a German-American screenwriter and film director who lived from 25 September 1900 to 1 May 1950. He was the nephew of Universal Pictures founder Carl Laemmle and, like many of his relatives, was brought over to America to work for the studio. He directed a number of short western films during the silent era, directed films for Universal's German subsidiary, and in the 1930s worked as Universal's foreign dialogue supervisor. He is credited on The Phantom of the Opera, listed here as a work.
