Silent and Early Cinema Landmarks

Flesh and the Devil is a 1926 American silent romantic drama directed by Clarence Brown and released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on December 25, 1926, starring Greta Garbo, John Gilbert, Lars Hanson and Barbara Kent. It is based on the 1894 novel The Undying Past by the German writer Hermann Sudermann. The film was a substantial commercial success against its production cost, and in 2006 it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.
