The Bell Telephone Hour is a program sponsored by the Bell Telephone System, beginning on NBC Radio on April 29, 1940 and presenting classical music and Broadway selections performed by prominent guest artists. After a 1942 restructuring it became known as the Great Artists Series, built around showcasing leading performers of the day, and it reached an estimated eight to nine million listeners weekly during its radio run. It continued as a television program from 1959 to 1968, becoming one of the first American television series broadcast entirely in color and winning two Emmy Awards.
