Sky King is an American radio adventure series created in 1946 by Robert Morris Burtt and Wilfred G. Moore, who had earlier created the aviation serial Captain Midnight. It followed Schuyler Sky King, an Arizona rancher and pilot who used his airplane, the Songbird, to catch criminals, foil spies and rescue stranded hikers across the American Southwest, airing until 1954 with several actors, including Roy Engel and Earl Nightingale, voicing the title role over the run. The premise was carried into a television version starring Kirby Grant that premiered on NBC in 1951, and the show remained especially popular with listeners who went on to careers in aviation.
