The Adventures of Sam Spade, Detective was an American radio series loosely based on the private detective character Sam Spade, created by the writer Dashiell Hammett for The Maltese Falcon. The show ran for 13 episodes on ABC in 1946, 157 episodes on CBS from 1946 to 1949, and 75 episodes on NBC from 1949 to 1951, starring Howard Duff as Sam Spade and Lurene Tuttle as his secretary Effie, taking a more tongue-in-cheek approach to the character than the novel or film; the announcer was Dick Joy, and the closing theme was the period standard Goodnight Sweetheart.
