Ma Perkins is an American radio serial that ran from 1933 to 1960, broadcast on NBC and later CBS, centering on a widow who runs a lumber yard in the fictional town of Rushville Center and offers homespun advice to her family and neighbors through their various troubles. Sponsored for most of its run by the Oxydol detergent brand, the program is widely credited with helping establish the format later known as the soap opera, pairing continuing domestic storylines with product sponsorship aimed at daytime listeners.
