Figures who invented or fundamentally advanced the technology of still photography or motion-picture capture and projection, from the earliest fixed photographic images through the apparatus that made moving pictures possible. Belongs here: inventors of photographic processes, motion-capture apparatus and early cinema projection and exhibition technology. Does not belong here: figures whose defining contribution is directing craft rather than the underlying apparatus, grouped under directors and filmmakers, even where a figure both built the apparatus and used it to make early films.
