Devilman

Devilman is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai, following a high school student named Akira Fudo who absorbs the powers of a demon called Amon, with the help of his friend Ryo Asuka, in order to fight the demonic creatures hidden within human society, taking on the name Devilman in the process. The series was originally commissioned by Toei Animation as a toned down anime companion to Nagai's earlier manga Demon Lord Dante, but Devilman ended up taking on a darker tone that reflected Nagai's own anti war views.
