David Simon

David Simon is an American journalist, author and television producer whose work grew directly out of his years covering crime for The Baltimore Sun. Between 1982 and 1995 he worked the newspaper's city desk, reporting on Baltimore's drug trade and criminal justice system, research that became his 1991 nonfiction book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, later adapted into the NBC series Homicide: Life on the Street. With Ed Burns he wrote The Corner in 1997, and in 2002 he created The Wire, the HBO drama that dramatized Baltimore's institutions through the drug war. He went on to create Treme, The Deuce and We Own This City, and was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2010 for reshaping how television depicts urban American life.
