Sesame Street

Sesame Street is an American children's television series that premiered on November 10, 1969, created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett and combining live action, sketch comedy, animation and puppetry to teach preschool age children letters, numbers and social lessons. It was the first children's television program built from an explicit educational curriculum rather than assembled around entertainment alone, and its puppet characters, created with Jim Henson, became internationally recognized figures of childhood. By 2019 more than 190 million children had watched some 160 local versions of the show produced in 70 languages around the world, and it has won more Emmy Awards than any other children's program, making it one of the most influential works in the history of educational broadcasting.
