Kirby's Dream Land

Interactive and Networked Media Landmarks

Kirby's Dream Land is a 1992 platform game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy, marking the debut of the character Kirby as he journeys through five stages to recover the Sparkling Stars and food stolen by King Dedede. It introduced Kirby's signature ability to inhale enemies, and its room based levels with door checkpoints departed from the continuous scrolling stages common in platformers at the time. The game sold more than five million copies, held the franchise's sales record for three decades, and was the directorial debut of Masahiro Sakurai, who later created the Super Smash Bros. series.
