The Hunt for Gollum is a 2009 British fantasy fan film directed by Chris Bouchard, based on material from the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. It imagines Aragorn sent by Gandalf to capture Gollum before he can betray the location of the One Ring to Sauron. Made on a budget of under 3,000 pounds and released free online through the Sci-Fi-London festival in May 2009, it drew millions of views and was widely praised as one of the most polished fan-made films distributed on the internet, made without an official license from the Tolkien estate under what its director described as an informal understanding.
