Ultima Online

Interactive and Networked Media Landmarks

Ultima Online is a massively multiplayer online role playing game developed by Origin Systems and released in 1997, set in the fantasy world of Britannia established by the earlier single player Ultima series. It was one of the first commercially successful graphical MMORPGs, notable for its persistent shared world, a deep player driven economy in which players crafted and traded most of the game's goods, and, in its early years, a full loot player versus player system that allowed players to kill and rob one another almost anywhere in the world.
