Tears of Steel

Interactive and Networked Media Landmarks

Tears of Steel is a 2012 science fiction short film produced by the Blender Foundation and directed by Ian Hubert, combining live action with computer-generated sets, props and effects to tell a story of warriors and scientists in Amsterdam trying to stop destructive robots. It was the Blender Foundation's fifth open movie, made to demonstrate new visual-effects capabilities added to the free Blender software, including camera tracking, rotoscoping, compositing and color grading. The production released around four terabytes of its raw footage and project files under a Creative Commons license, extending the foundation's model of fully open filmmaking.
