Rebel Scum is a 2016 Canadian Star Wars fan film directed by Timothy Van Nguyen. The nine minute short is set during the Rebel retreat from Hoth in the aftermath of The Empire Strikes Back and was filmed in Alberta between January and March 2015 using practical effects and stop motion animation rather than computer generated imagery. Released on YouTube on January 9, 2016, it had drawn more than 2.3 million views by February 2023 and won a Platinum Remi Award at the 2017 WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. Reviewers praised its visual effects, costumes and production quality, with one describing it as work that could have appeared in the original Star Wars trilogy.
