Counter-Strike

Interactive and Networked Media Landmarks

Counter-Strike is a team-based tactical first-person shooter originally created in 1999 as a fan-made modification of the game Half-Life by Minh Le and Jess Cliffe, later acquired and published commercially by Valve, pitting a team of terrorists against a team of counter-terrorists across objective-based rounds. The game helped establish the practice of independently made mods being adopted and released as standalone commercial titles. Counter-Strike is widely regarded as a landmark of the tactical shooter genre and one of the most influential and enduring titles in competitive esports.
