Zork

Interactive and Networked Media Landmarks

Zork is a text adventure video game originally developed beginning in 1977 by members of the MIT Dynamic Modeling Group, including Tim Anderson, Marc Blank, Bruce Daniels and Dave Lebling, and later commercialized by Infocom, the company several of its creators founded. The game presents an underground fantasy world explored entirely through typed natural-language text commands and printed text descriptions, with no graphics. Zork is widely regarded as a landmark of the text adventure and interactive fiction genre and one of the best-selling early home computer games.
